Preschool Teacher In-Service Day

Last week the staff from Children’s Village Preschool (Orange, CA) and Edgewater Preschool (Long Beach, CA) joined together for a staff in-service day. The day was filled with both team building activities and lots of helpful workshops put on by the Directors and Administrators. The main focus of the in-service was to help the teachers continue creating an environment that is aligned with the school’s hands-on, child-centered philosophy. The first workshop for the day involved cooking, sensory, and woodworking activities, all of which can help children develop pre-math skills ( measurement, counting, and classifying), skill related to scientific methods (observing and identifying colors, textures, smell and taste), all while developing creativity, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. The teachers were very excited to take back some of these ideas and do them with the children in their classrooms. The next workshops included topics such as positive guidance techniques, parent communication and documenting children’s progress through portfolios. The final workshop helped teachers to examine the infinite possibilities that can arise from dramatic play. There are so many ways to help foster children’s imagination, self-regulation, vocabulary, and pre-writing skills with the children guiding their own learning. Each of the workshops gave teachers the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers, be active in group discussions, and share ideas with one another. The staff also enjoyed mealtime together and used this time to get to know each other better and build deeper relationships with one another. We are very fortunate to have such a great group.

More Preschool Outside Fun

Lunch time at preschool

Lunch time in a childcare center is much more than just time to eat! During lunch children engage in social conversations as they talk about their different lunch items, they develop independence and self help skills by serving and feeding themselves (fine motor skill), and by learning how to pour their own milk and throwing away their trash. Research has shown significant long term benefits on preschool children’s development when sharing meals with family and friends.

Book Exchange at Orange, CA Childcare Center

The children experienced the joys of giving and receiving during our annual book exchange party! Each child brought in a wrapped book to exchange with their classmates and they each got to take a new book home.

Children Learning Social Skills

Through dramatic play children build their social skills. They learn how to share materials, learn how to play with other children in a group, build communication skills (listening skills), and use their imagination(voice their own ideas). Studies have shown that children with good social skills do better in school.

New Playhouse

We recently rebuilt the upper yard playhouse and added a stage. We shared the construction project pictures with our parents and received several very nice comments back. Here are two of them. THANK YOU for the positive words!

#1 …..we love the school. I toured 13 preschools in the Orange/Tustin/Irvine area before coming to yours and we love Children’s Village the best. We love the homey, warm and caring environment, and this yard is unbeatable. Most other schools have no shade and mostly concrete for the kids to play on……..

#2 It looks beautiful, although I have to say your entire campus and play yards I think are perfectly appropriate for the kids, In addition to what is there, you add other activities, etc. that I think are wonderful. Although my older daughter went to the school when it was County Village, and I was very happy then, we looked at many, many preschools before choosing Children’s Village for xxxx. I think your overall campus environment and play yards are far superior to other pre-schools in the area.
